One of the most outstanding benefits of being a Tiger Rock Martial Arts member is being invited to attend Tiger Rock TaeKwonDo tournaments. These are called closed tournaments because only Tiger Rock members may participate. Tournaments provide an element of the unfamiliar, preparing for real life self-defense situations in a fun, exciting, educational, confidence enhancing format. During a tournament, students and instructors compete in many different types of competition divisions. See below for a list of some of the available competition divisions held at Tiger Rock tournaments. They are judged by higher ranking Tiger Rock black belts that have had many years of tournament and judging experience. Each student's accomplishments and abilities are recognized as they perform in front of mentors, peers, and an admiring crowd of onlookers. At a Tiger Rock tournament, all participants go home winners because they gain important insights into the art of TaeKwonDo and themselves.
Tiger Rock Martial Arts International has developed an annual schedule that will facilitate attendance by making travel more convenient. The schedule consists of District, National, and World championships. These tournaments, open to any Tiger Rock member in good standing, are action-packed and enjoyable for all participants and spectators alike. TaeKwonDo Tournaments also serve to get everyone in Tiger Rock together for important interaction.
Every tournament has an exciting demonstration of advanced TaeKwonDo and special guests. Students and parents alike find Tiger Rock TaeKwonDo tournaments to be very rewarding experiences and look forward to the next one. They are an important part of the training of every TaeKwonDo student and are also important to the continued excellence of instruction in Tiger Rock.
District Tournaments are usually smaller because only schools in a particular local area participate, developing area comeraderie. The District tournament give those students who cannot travel far, a chance to compete or serve as a warm-up for Tiger Rock "Nationals" & "Worlds". During District Championships competitors have the chance to earn special invistations to compete in Master divisions at the World. District Tournaments intentionally offer less options for competition including: Tiger Cubs, Forms, One-Steps, Point Sparring, and maybe board breaking.
National Tournaments are usually larger than Districs because they include a larger area of participation from outside area schools; they are however still much smaller than the World Competition. In our case Nationals includes the rest of the schools in Colorado and the New Mexico school. The National Tournaments still give students who cannot travel far the opportunity to participate as they will most likely be located in Colorado Springs or the Denver Area. During National Championships competitors have the chance to earn special invistations to compete in Master divisions at the World. National Competitions offer a wider range of Competitions to the competitors: Tiger Cubs, Forms, One-Steps, Point Sparring, board breaking, Free style forms, XP Forms, Team Forms, Weapons Forms, and sometimes an Agility Course.
Everything leads to the World Championships!!! World Championships are the largest Tiger Rock sanctioned event. The World Championship includes all Tiger Rock Martial Arts Academies around the United States and usually has 2000+ competitirs. There is nothing else like it! World Championships offer the widest variety of different types of competitions: Tiger Cubs, Forms, One-Steps, Point Sparring, board breaking, Free style forms, XP Forms, Team Forms, Weapons Forms, Agility Courses, open sparring , team sparring, World Championship Masters Divisions, and more. :-)
Q. What are some of the benefits of competing in TaeKwonDo tournaments?
It is fun.
You get to meet (and kick) new people that enjoy the same martial art as you.
You learn from winning and from losing. Winning lets you know the areas you are good at while losing lets you know what areas you need to focus more on.
Challenge yourself. Nobody practices soccer and hopes to never step foot on a soccer field against another team. Get out of your comfort zone and face the challenge of competing against people that you are not use to training with.
Represent your team. Your instructor team puts in a lot of effort taking you to your next level. We are proud of you for taking the challenge and competing. Win or lose we are proud to have you represent us!
You will make lasting memories with your friends and family! What did you do on a random Saturday 2 years ago? No idea probably, but I can tell you about the experience we had at this tournament.
There are many competition options at the tournament:
Cubs compete in a ring similar to their testing but has a unique competition feel to it!.
Juniors, Youth, and Adults have even more options.
Form-based on how good you can perform the techniques, power, stances, & etc.
1 steps- for White and yellow belts based on how good you can perform the techniques, power, stances, & etc.
Agility Course- based on speed you complete the course that will test your speed, directional changes, strength etc.
Tournament Sparring- 2 minute rounds. Race to 7 points. 1st to 7 wins or whoever has the most points at the end of 2 minutes. Kicks to the body=1 point. Reverse punch to the body=1 point. Head kicks=2 points. Strikes/illegal techniques/illegal targets awards the opponent 1 point.
Board Breaking-individual competition. You versus 5 boards. Break them with the selected techniques to earn the bronze, silver, or gold.
Freestyle Form/XP Form. Forms you have made up set to music. XP forms can include flips, rolls, 540+ spins etc.
Weapons Forms-like XP forms but with the addition of weapons (kama, sword, nun chucks, or bo staff).
Team Form-these can be freestyle, XP, or weapons...
